Awhile back, I told you guys that I wanted to do a 'Let's Watch' feature. I'd really love to get into that soon, so I thought I'd explain the idea to all of you. On top of that, I'd like to talk about options for what we could watch!
My idea for a Let's Watch feature would have us all watching a couple episodes of a particular anime each week. We'd all watch the same anime, and then during certain specific days I would post an impressions article on the site. The main part of this feature would be for us to have a conversation about the episodes we watch, as well as the series' direction. I'm hoping this is an idea that interests you guys! It's like our Durarara!! live-chat features, but this time we'll go into detailed analysis!
The most important question is, what are we going to watch?! There are so many anime features out there to choose from, we shouldn't have any trouble figuring out something that should we can all enjoy. There definitely have to be a couple guidelines when picking an anime, and these are the major ones I can think of.
- Series has to be easily/readily available for all to watch without needing to purchase anything
- Series content shouldn't stray too far into the adult area, since we want to involve as many people as possible
- Series should be dubbed/subbed so that anyone can watch in their preferred method
- Series shouldn't be 100+ episodes. We want to start of with something manageable!
That's all the guidelines I can think of, so I open up the suggestions to you! Leave a comment here, send a Tweet, comment on my Facebook post or email me directly. Let's hear what you guys want to tackle together!
I'd gun for School Days, but I'm unsure if anyone would up for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm game for anything that I haven't seen before, and I haven't seen School Days.
ReplyDeleteSo let's go!
School Days gets VERY dark though. Going with something accessible, and you may as well go for broke:
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the NHK.
It explains much about adult problems, and is my go to anime for when someone wants to prove anime isn't just for kids. I believe it's available on Hulu as well.
i think we should watch something else then school days, but hey that's my opinion
ReplyDeleteOooo! Oooo! Not to sound like a broken record, but I have a great idea for a Let's Watch! Right now Funimation has Baccano both subbed and dubbed for free to watch on Youtube here http://www.youtube.com/show?p=hyQAXPO7-ho. I would suggest this anime because it is by the same author and studio that did Durarara and involves gangsters in 1930's America! The only possible drawback to this series is that it does get a little graphic with the violence, but I've seen much worse from other anime series. It is 16 episodes long.
ReplyDeleteAside from that, I would also suggest The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Just the first series, not the second one. That would be painful), Eden of the East, or Genshiken. For a slightly longer one, I would suggest Oh Edo Rocket, School Rumble, Shakugan no Shana, or Full Metal Panic. Sorry for throwing all those at you, but I think those could provide the most discussion while staying in the parameters of what you set on here.
I vote Sgt. Frog, it's up both subbed and dubbed on Hulu. And discussions between the two would be really interesting, since they're probably different. And there's only 52 dubbed/subbed officially episodes at this point, until they get to the next release.
ReplyDeleteAlso One piece, because HUNDREDS OF EPISODES WITH IT BEING ONGOING IS AWESOME.
And Kaiji, because it's just awesome. Not availible anywhere officially though, so it's kinda questionable. But it's fun. And then we can all gamble about it.
Now that I think about it, we might want to keep it at 25 episodes or less. Anything too longer might drag on too much you know.
