As I stated when I started this blog awhile back, FLCL is the reason I got into anime. I had seen anime films and certain shows before FLCL, but it was that series that really showed me how amazing anime could be. On the surface it seems like a bat-shit crazy anime that does nothing but scream in your face. When you decide to look past that you start to see what the show really offers. It's an experience unlike any other I've had from film/TV.
It's almost like FLCL uses its wackiness to keep the close-minded away. Most people will see less than 5 minutes of FLCL and decide that it's insane just for the sake of being insane. It's like every other anime out there. It is pervy, full of yelling and makes no sense at all. All the stereotypes you usually hear about anime that we know aren't true, but your average joe has already made up his mind. FLCL relishes in that ignorant viewpoint to keep those types of people away. For those that are willing to truly open their minds and experience something new, FLCL offers a ride that never ceases to amaze.
When I originally saw FLCL, I saw it on Adult Swim's anime night. I saw one episode and was absolutely floored. It was a truly transformative moment in my life. It started me down the rabbit hole of anime that I never looked back from. I may not have the time or funds to do as much with anime as I'd like, but it is indeed a deep part of who I am. It helped to form part of my mentality and my approach to life. It helped to make me more open-minded and understanding.
That's why I was so happy to see FLCL coming back to Adult Swim's Toonami rebirth. The commercial above absolutely gives me goosebumps. In just 30 seconds, it accurately describes the vibe and importance of the show. I've always known that the Adult Swim gang were some pretty cool people, but their work on this commercial cements it for me. They understand how amazing anime can be and what it can offer to those that are willing to partake.
One of the greatest anime series' of all time, they say. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Awesome, I've been wanting to watch that for a long time. I had it on my instant que on Netflix and it got removed by the time I got around to watching it. I love those crazy animes, Excel Saga is my favorite of all. I used to watch anime all the time, but then I got married and had kids and got an old house that needed remodeled and just hadn't had time to watch anything in a long time (not to mention I now have a backlog of video games I will never catch up with). Recently I have found a little time to watch some anime I've been meaning to get around to, FLCL is definitely high on the list. I'm still upset they took off Case Closed, it's not really something I would think I wold like, but I got totally hooked on it. To make it worse they took it off after the first part of a two part episode and I wanted to see what happened so bad. I got a few seasons on DVD but there's so many it's just too expensive for me to buy any more.

It is still on and so happy FLCL is back.
