Are your friends into anime?

I know that when I truly enjoy something, I love sharing it with my friends.  It's always more fun when you have people around you that are enjoying themselves as well.  That's what friends are for!  You all come together and share what makes you happy in life, and then hopefully you'll all learn and grow from that experience.  That is definitely how I approach anime viewing.

I'm lucky to have a group of friends that are into anime.  They may not watch regularly like I do, but they're more than open to the ideas and presentation of anime.  As a matter of fact, it's hard for me to think of a friend that doesn't appreciate at least one anime.  I mean, there are very few that don't accept anime at all, but the large majority of my group is willing to at least see what I make all the fuss about.

My current mission is to show people Death Note, since I really think it's an easy show to get into but a very smart one at that.  Thus far, I've found that by the end of the second episode, just about everyone is really invested in where the show is going.  I don't know what it is about the combination of those two episodes, but they really grab people and ready them for more!

Are you in a group of friends that appreciates anime, or are you trying to broaden their horizons right now?

  1. You and I both share the same exact mission! Death Note is a GREAT series to get into anime. It's paced very nicely, and it's engaging enough to truly suck one in right from the get-go while being deep enough to keep 'em around. Quite a few of my friends and family have picked up, watched, and loved the series after my introducing it to them.

Lots of people I know love anime, and in particular, there's one of my best friends, my sister, as well as the girl I love who all love anime and often end up watching the same show I'm into at the time being.

  2. I don't have many friends but I know one of them are and another one is too I guess. One female and one male friend. Wish I had some more people to talk to about the ones I watch, I watch way too little anime though.

(Btw I'm Murdoc on Go Nintendo, aka Swedish Otaku)

  3. I'm taking an Animation course in college, so it's fairly easy to find people interested in it. It's cool to have people around that know what you're talking about.

  6. Death Note is not that good. I don't see why people are so crazy about it. I read the manga, and it was okay until a certain plot element that sent it spiraling downwards into mediocrity. But I guess people just have different tastes and I respect that. If you think you need a "bridge" anime to show instead of displaying the "core" shows, then you don't have much faith in the medium. It's like saying "here's an onion, it tastes very different from the rest of the meal, but I hope you like it. The rest tastes like broccoli."

With that said, I don't have friends in real life that watch anime as I do. Although I do watch shows with my little sister. Mainly comedies and shows with interesting stories over fanservice.

  7. Yeah I've had a couple of friends that liked anime casually. Then I had some that were hardcore manga, and I didn't like being around them that much when they talked about it :P

And last year I used to joke around making people think I was an otaku. But that was just for the lulz.

  9. Yeah, but we don't really talk about it. I have pretty different tastes than everyone else I know who watches anime, so I am a ronrey anime viewer.

So yeah, they're into anime, just not the same kind of anime lol. The same could be said about the games I play too though.
"Play dat awesome new Mass Effactz?"
"Can't hear you over my import copy of Another Code R"
