Welcome to Anime Your Way

I'm sure that almost all of you on this blogger page know me from GoNintendo.  If you've been hanging around that site for awhile, you might know that I'm a huge fan of anime as well.  That's right, I love video games and anime.  How much more otaku can one get?!

I guess gaming and anime are closely related, at least in a few ways.  There's still a huge anime influence on video games that come out of Japan.  Story arcs, character designs, theme songs and more.  Unfortunately, a lot of people see that kind of content in video games and automatically blacklist them.  While gaming has been quickly moving away from negative stereotypes, anime seems to struggle each year.

What is it about anime that stirs up such negative emotions from people?  Unfortunately, a lot of the hate comes from a handful of very well-known anime features.  When people think of anime, the only content that comes to mind includes lots of screaming, veins popping out of heads, and tons of upskirt shots.  I'm not saying that there's no place for that kind of stuff in anime.  My issue comes with people that believe that the aspects mentioned above are all that anime has to offer.

I'm just shocked that people are so willing to shoot down anime without actually looking into what the style of animation has to offer.  It's almost like a person saying that they dislike all crime/drama/mystery films because they didn't enjoy L.A. Confidential.  Do people really think this way?  To blindly toss aside an entire collection of storytelling just because of one or two features makes no sense to me.

I guess you're starting to figure out why I've started this blogger page.  My goal is to show people the huge amount of range that anime has.  Yes, I do love the crazy, off-the-wall anime that drives some people away automatically.  I also like all the other approaches to anime that those same people most likely know nothing of.  I'd absolutely love to hear that someone actually jumped to the anime side of the fence after reading a post on this blog.  I think that's a lot to ask for, but even if one person has a change of heart, that's enough for me.

Of course, this is also a home for those that love anime and want to share all the great content that this storytelling method has.  You'll definitely find an anime fan in me, and I'd love to hear what you have to say about your favorite features.  For as much as I love anime, there are tons of features that I probably know nothing of.  It'll be a great learning experience for everyone, from long-time fans to newcomers alike.

For the purposes of this blog, I'll be sticking to anime features that have been released on DVD/Blu-ray in North America.  I want to keep the barrier low when it comes to entry for newcomers.  That's not to say that the features and approach won't change as the months roll on, but the heart of this blog will always be the old/new content that has seen official release in the states.

With all of that out of the way, we can get to the fun stuff!  I hope you enjoy what this blog has to offer, and I'm very interested to see where it takes me in the future.  I'd love to have you all along for the journey!

P.S. - For those of you that are GoNintendo fans, I'm sorry to tell you that this blog will not be updated nearly as much as GN.  I plan to post here every day, but this is just a side-project for fun.  GoNintendo is my heart and soul, my bread and butter, my baby!  This blog will in no way impact GoNintendo work.  I will only be working on this blog in my free time.
