The grand family anime finale

You might remember my articles that referenced my family get-togethers for some anime viewing.  My family wasn't really into anime before, minus one cousin that is definitely a fan.  I made it my mission to show them how great anime could be, and that lead to me telling them about Death Note.  I managed to bring them together to watch a few episodes, and ever since then they've all been hooked!

It's tough to get all those people together to watch anime, but we've managed to work it out over the last couple of months.  Every few weekends we find one day where we can all come together to watch a handful of Death Note episodes, and that's how it's been going ever since we started.  I know things are going well when it's time to go home and everyone is calling for just one more episode!

While it feels like we just started watching Death Note, we're already very close to the end.  I'd say we have about 5 more episodes to go, and then the series is completely over.  It'll be a sad day indeed, but I'm already really happy with how Death Note has changed my family's opinion of anime.  They went from thinking anime wasn't for them to realizing what they were missing out on.  I couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

Our final episodes of Death Note are going to be viewed at our yearly family vacation in North Carolina.  My mother's side of the family has been all gathering together for week-long trips to North Carolina for the better part of 20 years now.  We honestly all get along really well, and I couldn't think of a better place to wrap up Death Note.  When it gets dark and the beach/ocean gets cold, we can snuggle up on the couch and finish up Light's journey!

What's the best part about all of this?  Some of my family members are already asking what we're going to watch next.  While I know and have seen a lot of anime, I'm at a loss for where to take them next!  Where do you go to follow up Death Note?!  I'm still trying to figure that out, but feel free to shoot over a suggestion or two.  I'm open to any ideas!

  1. Just watch Death Note again, so they can say "I can't believe I liked this."

Besides that, if you're looking for anime that are like DN, I can't think of any.

I would say Gurren Lagann, but it might be too big of a jump.

  3. Full Metal Alchemist is a little long, but I enjoyed that series as much as I did Death Note.
